CVS launches an “urban” concept store design, (Phase 1) to increase sales and convenience for customers in major Eastern US metropolitan areas.

CVS announces plans to begin building stores in the state of Minnesota, initially targeting the Minneapolis/St. Paul market.

2004

CVS acquires the 1,260-store Eckerd chain, expanding its market in the southern United States. Also acquired are Eckerd’s $1 billion mail order and pharmacy benefits management businesses and distribution centers.
